Sew, Mama, Sew’s Giveaway Day!

This giveaway is now closed. Congratulations to #29, Maureen!

sew, mama, sew!

Welcome visitors from Sew, Mama, Sew! Today is one of my favorite days in the blogosphere, because I discover new-to-me crafty people from around the world. I’m looking forward to spending a few hours this week exploring all sorts of endeavors, from sewing and knitting to pursuits I know much less about, like dyeing and upholstery.

I’m giving away this lovely hand-knit beret. I must confess that I originally intended it as a present for myself. I carefully selected the pattern from Rocket Boy Knits and the superwash merino wool yarn from Black Sheep Dyeworks with plans to knit myself a three-season hat. And I truly enjoyed both the pattern and the luscious variegated yarn. But it turns out that I’m not a beret person.

If you can stylishly sport a beret, and you’d like a chance to win this one, please leave a comment below. You can comment on anything: your latest project, where you’re from, thoughts on my Etsy shop…whatever you like as long as it’s fun for me to read. I read all the comments, and a plain old “enter me” is no fun on my end. I may even send a second prize to the most delightful/entertaining comment. The giveaway will close at 10pm EST on May 25, and a winner will be chosen at random.

As a thank-you for stopping by, I’ve set up a special offer for free shipping on any item in my Etsy shop, Petite Legume. Use coupon code SEWMAMAMAY for free shipping within the U.S. through the end of May.

(The giveaway is open internationally. If you’ve been to my local post office you’ll understand why I simply can’t offer free shipping around the world for my shop. It would mean hours in line at the post office, which is staffed by a gaggle of slow-moving, cranky individuals. I’m extremely thankful for online methods of shipping packages!)

Thanks for visiting the land of Apparently. Come back anytime – I usually blog about making stuff, but occasionally I diverge to such topics as growing butterflies, visiting museums, other cool stuff I’ve found online, and falling in love.

Now go check out some more blogs!

SMS Giveaway Day

Sew Mama Sew’s May Giveaway Day will be on May 23! If you haven’t experienced this sort of crafty love before, now’s your chance to discover some interesting new (and old) blogs and perhaps even win some fabric, washi tape, handmade goods and/or other cool stuff that various artisans around the world will be offering. The event is organized by the lovely people at Sew Mama Sew!, an online fabric shop (that isn’t just for the mamas).

This will be my third time participating in Giveaway Day…but I can’t decide what to give away. Options include one of several handknit items that really need a home, a sweet bundle of fat quarters (that’s cotton fabric for you non-sewists), several skeins of mercerized cotton yarn or, of course, a pincushion. There’s also the boy doll, who still needs a home. And a whole lot of Italian buttons.

What would you most like the chance to win from Apparently Craft Headquarters, a.k.a. the corner of my bedroom, provenance of Petite Legume, purveyors of fine sewn stuff? Feel free to mention something I haven’t listed. I have just a few days to decide if it’s something handmade, supplies or both, so I’d love to hear your thoughts!

Giveaway Day, Revisited

Remember Giveaway Day? I was so pleased to send a handmade needle book and a pack of charm squares to a lovely woman in Wisconsin.

luxe yarn

And as luck would have it, I won a giveaway myself! Inspired Mama, who also has a Etsy shop, sent me a gorgeous skein of beautiful hand-dyed wool and silk yarn in deep reds and purples. It arrived last night in a perfectly wrapped package along with two charming fabric buttons that I forgot to photograph. She was also kind enough to send a coupon code to share with you, so if you’d like your own Inspired Mama yarn, you can enjoy 10% off any yarn subscription (that’s one or two skeins a month for three months) by using code NEWYEAR2011. The code is good through February 1. Knitters take note: this is lovely yarn. Thanks, Inspired Mama!

edited to add: here are the buttons!

Giveaway Day!

This giveaway is now closed. Congratulations to #185, Jeanne, who won!

giveaway day

The lovely ladies at Sew Mama Sew! have organized their semi-annual Giveaway Day, and I’m delighted to take part again. Thank you for all your helpful comments back in May!

Needle Book and Charm Pack

One technique I grew particularly fond of this year was patchwork. I tend to save all my little bits and pieces, and I enjoy watching how my brain starts to make visual sense of the various colors and patterns that collect in my scrap drawer. I gravitate towards organizational projects: buckets, bags, pincushions…and this adorable needle book pattern from Patchwork Posse (which I first saw during Sew Mama Sew’s stash buster month).

To win this handmade needle book, along with a charm pack of 42 5″x5″ squares from the various projects I’ve made this year, just visit my Etsy shop, Petite Legume, and leave a comment on this post telling me which item is your favorite. (If you “favorite” it on Etsy, too, I’d be so very appreciative, but it’s not required.)

The needle book contains 4 double-sided eco-felt pages and secures with an elastic around a vintage metal button.

And if your holiday shopping needs a kick in the pants, please use coupon code APPARENTLY2010 for 10% off anything in my Etsy shop. Happy holidays!

The Fine Print: This giveaway will remain open until 6pm EST on Friday, December 17. The winner will be chosen by random number generator and will be contacted by email. If the winner does not respond within 48 hours, a new winner will be chosen at random. This giveaway is open to U.S. residents, with apologies to those who live elsewhere, but if you’d ever had to wait in line at my local post office, you’d understand.

Hawthorne Threads

Earlier this summer I discovered the lovely website of online fabric shop Hawthorne Threads. The site itself is so far superior to most fabric shop web sites that I started using it as a reference, and I’d find myself there whever browsing for fabric. The shop’s owners are located in upstate NY, but the shop itself is online only.

Hawthorne Threads

I signed up for their email newsletter, which they send weekly to announce new fabrics in stock. They also have a weekly giveaway and the occasional Facebook-only contest. I entered one of these and surprise – I won six fat quarters of the (then) highly-anticipated Far Far Away II by Heather Ross. A package arrived two days later, and I’ve been pondering for two months what exactly to do with it.

Far Far Away II

The felt case for my double-pointed needles has been looking a bit the worse for wear, and so I improvised a quick needle case with two of the pieces. In fact, I even made a travel case on the fly, since my needle case was turning out wider than I needed. I’m considering recovering my small ironing board with two more. That leaves two…what to make? (Do you have a favorite sewing project that uses fat quarters or small pieces? Tell me in the comments!)

Thanks to Charlie and Lindsay at Hawthorne Threads for a most excellent prize. Any guesses as to which shop will receive my next big fabric order?

Sew, Mama, Sew’s Giveaway Day!

Giveaway Day

Hello, readers of Sew, Mama, Sew! It’s Giveaway Day in the blogosphere, which means that you’ll find a long list of crafty people who are giving away handmade items and/or craft supplies on Monday, May 17 on Sew, Mama, Sew’s blog. This is a great opportunity to find new crafty blogs to follow, as well as online shops that feature lovely handcrafted goods from edibles and wearables to maps and ephemera.

Apparently will be giving away a handmade jar pincushion filled with notions (vintage buttons, bias tape, pom poms) along with one yard of the sweet vintage fabric shown in the photo. The fabric is dotted with elephants, zebras and giraffes dancing with little red stars on a light brown background. I love these pincushions, and I have one in nearly every room of my home (plus a few others).

Pincushion

Recently I’ve started to give my Etsy shop, Petite Legume, some dedicated attention. Right now the shop is stocked with felt food, sunhats and toddler pants, but I’d like to add to my repertoire. So for my giveaway, please take a look at Petite Legume and answer the following question in the comments on this post: what would you like to see (or see more of) in my shop?

Please leave your comment by 6pm EST on Thursday, May 20 to enter the giveaway. Be sure to include your email address so I can contact you if you are the winner! A winner will be chosen by the Random Number Generator and will have 48 hours to reply to my email with a snail mail address before a new winner is chosen. US entries only, please; if you have ever visited my local post office, you’d understand.

Petite Legume: Cool Stuff for Little Beans

Update: We have a winner, and it’s Megan, who said, “I love the felt food – more of that would definitely be cute. I like the idea of a previous commenter — make your own pizzas or burgers. Things with movable parts. Thanks for the giveaway!” Congrats, Megan!

from random.org

Thanks to all of you for your thoughtful comments. People suggested more felt food, which is definitely in the works – I even have a new shipment of 100% wool felt ready for this project! The other popular suggestion was more sun hats – particularly girly ones and in adult sizes. I have a bunch of custom orders to do this week, but then I’ll be creating more hats. If you would like to request a custom hat, just email me. You can see some of my new fabrics in the next post…

Sew, Mama, Sew! and Giveaway Day

Sew Mama Sew's Giveaway Day

Apparently is pleased to participate in Sew, Mama, Sew’s Spring Giveaway Day on May 17. Sew, Mama, Sew! is a lovely online shop full of beautiful fabrics, and the Sew, Mama, Sew! blog has been a true source of inspiration and instruction ever since I hauled my trusty old Kenmore out of the closet three years ago.

Come back here on May 17 to find out what I’ll be giving away and how to enter to win. I’m thinking it’ll be a handmade jar pincushion filled with supplies along with a yard of fabric, but suggestions are welcome!
